We are delighted to inform you that we have successfully completed the approval of an asset transfer request for the development of a new mosque in Bathgate. This milestone is among the first of its kind, with remarkable feedback from both the local council and the broader community. Bathgate Mosque has served the community for over 35 years, providing invaluable support and acting as a successful charity. Our upcoming expansion represents a major step forward in enhancing our facilities and broadening our reach. The new facility is intended to serve not only the mosque but also the wider community. It will house a variety of programs and services, including:
- Youth clubs and kids' sports clubs
- A gym and women’s sports club
- A community centre with asylum and women’s support groups
- Social and welfare groups
- A café and food court
- After-school clubs with tutoring support

For the mosque expansion, we aim to increase capacity from 100 to over 1,000 members at any given time. The new space will accommodate ladies and offer additional Quran and cultural classes, as well as adult classes on Islam. Notably, it will also feature the first Islamic funeral services in Bathgate.
The building is valued at £875,000 as a whole, with an estimated worth of £950,000 if sold individually. The agreed price with the local authority is £600,000, with additional fees totalling £50,000, making the total required for the purchase £650,000.
Refurbishment costs for the mosque and the wider community are projected to be approximately £300,000 and £350,000, respectively.
This brings the total estimated investment to approximately £1.3 million pounds.

In addition to donations, we are also accepting interest-free loans (Qard-e-Hasanah) for a three-year period, which will help support the project's acquisition and development. These loans will be repaid in full at the end of the term. Furthermore, if a full or substantial amount is made, we can offer security on the property as a form of first charge. This provides an added layer of security for larger investors while enabling us to advance this significant community project with greater confidence. We are seeking donations to support this project. Contributions can be made publicly or anonymously, depending on the donor's preference. Additionally, we invite you to consider becoming part of our board or sponsoring the project long-term to help fund classes and various community programs. This is a pioneering project where the local authority, a Muslim organisation, and the wider community are collaborating to create a meaningful impact. As a limited company with Scottish charitable status (OSCR), any donations made privately may qualify for tax relief and gift aid.
